Scribe Post: Day 72

Hey guys!!! Even though it was super duper cold out, we still had school on Friday. Since Charlene didn't make it to class, I volunteered to take over. Sorry I put this up late. I tried making the post on Friday, and when I came back to edit, the window just kept closing. So I had to delete that one and start over. Anyway, here comes a whole lot of math!!!

First of all, Mr. K gave us a five minute lesson on what we were learning:

We then had the following questions on the board:
The first one being; Find the area between f(x) and g(x).
The second; Find the area between f(x) and g(x).

And the third;

SUMMARY:

  • always figure out which function is on top
  • find the roots by letting the functions equal each other
  • define the integral that you are looking for
  • solve the integral

We started the fourth question, which was about the amusement park. Its super long, and looks like its a lot of work, but we're finally going to solve it, woohoo =) Since we didn't finish, I will add it after tomorrow's class.

Speaking of which, TOMORROW is the PRE-TEST and TUESDAY is the TEST.

With that being said, HMWK for the weekend is to finish 6.4 odds and Supplementary Problems.

Also, don't forget about about the integral picture due next week, and and your BOB's.

Tomorrow's scribe is CHARLENE =)

Hi,

I am a student teacher in the U.S. planning to start a class weblog. I have been looking at Mr. Kuropatwa's great weblogs. Your scribe post is excellent. I wonder if you might tell me what programs you used to create the images in the post, and what file types. I'm trying to learn how to get such information into posts so I can teach my students how to do it. Thanks!

Hi Linger,

Kudos to you for persevering with all the technology challenges and providing such a well illustrated scribe!!
Best,
Lani

Wow linger =)

For excellent illustrations while preserving the essence of the lesson, I nominate this scribe post to the Hall of Fame. Keep up the good work linger ;)

linger i just found a little boo boo. on the problem with the f(x)=x^2 and g(x)=x+2, you plug in 2 first to the antiderivative right? For the second term, it should be x/2 = 2/2 = 1 right?

Hi Linger,

I wonder if there is a typo in the second box first figure. Otherwise, I just wanted to say really really nice work. How did you make all your pictures? I see you've been asked before. Please, do tell.

Christian you caught an error in the right place but the 2 is correct. The error is in the antiderivative in the third picture. Maybe Linger can edit it? ;-)

Hello to all!!! Good news, I can now edit my post =) Turns out that we really should be using Firefox and not Internet Explorer... anyway, a lot of comments have been made so I'll try to answer everyone's questions.

The first one reguarding Mr. Carlin and e's question on how I create my images. The only program I've used to make these graphs is Paint. Believe it or not, it's the program that I'm most familiar with, so it's the one I use. I'm sure there are many out there, but I think that everyone should use whatever works for them. Also, I save my images as PNG files instead of JPEG or GIF, because it turns out clearer and it doesn't take up as much space as Bitmap files do.

Also reguarding e's comment on the second box first figure; I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it, but I will double check with Mr. K.

Moving on with Christian's and Mr. K's comment, I realized this error last night as I was rewriting my notes to study for the test. I will edit it asap =)

Thanks again for the comments. Have yourselves a good one =)
